TRAVEL TIPS

Hours of Operation

Most banks in Philadelphia follow standard hours. (TD Bank, which has a strong presence in the city and its suburbs, tends to stay open later, until 7 or 8 pm.) ATMs accessible 24 hours a day are located all over the city, and Wawa, a local convenience chain, offers surcharge-free teller machines. United States Post Office locations, can close from anywhere from noon to 6 pm, depending on location and day of week. Many museums and sights of interest are open 10 to 5; a few stay open late one or two evenings a week, and a number are closed on Monday. Historic-area sights are open daily, with longer hours in summer, but it's wise to check ahead. Bars and nightclubs close at 2 am, but there are several after-hours clubs for the serious night owls. Downtown shopping hours are generally 9:30 or 10 to 5 or 6. Some stores are open until 9 pm on Wednesday. Smaller, independently owned businesses like antiques stores, vintage shops, and art galleries may be closed some mornings or weekdays; it's wise to call ahead or check online.
